The Most Popular Plastic Surgery Procedures
Plastic surgeries are typically optional surgical procedures undertaken order to restore, reconstruct, or alter the human body. The vast majority are done for aesthetic purposes. However, plastic surgery may be necessary for reconstructive surgery, when a part of the body suffers damage in the case of burns, hand or nose surgery, craniofacial surgery, breast reconstruction surgery, and more.
In recent times, society is more open to plastic surgeries. In particular, the following plastic surgeries are the most popular in the U.S.:
1. Botox
Botox or BTX-A, is administered in the form of injections. This cosmetic surgery is done on an outpatient basis to reduce the appearance of wrinkles. BTX-A is injected directly into the area in order to block the chemical signals from the nerves, which causes muscles to contract and cause the appearance of wrinkles. BTX-A injections are known as one of the safest forms of cosmetic surgery, even when it is administered over long periods of time. Botox also has very few minor side effects (i.e, muscle weakness or stiffness near injection site, headache, puffy eyelids, dry mouth).
2. CoolSculpting
Cryolipolysis, which has been trademarked as CoolSculpting, is a procedure that freezes and destroys fat cells safely and effectively without any surgery or downtime. It is a non-invasive procedure that removes fat via freezing. Fat cells and surrounding tissues are frozen in low temperatures and then die and are eliminated naturally from the body within 6 to 8 weeks time.
3. Liposuction
Liposuction is a fat removal procedure like cryolipolysis, however, the method for liposuction uses invasive surgery to remove unwanted fat from the body. Therefore, liposuction has more visible and immediate results. Lipo works best on patients near their goal weight with good skin elasticity, who eat well and exercise regularly. The procedure is only completed by a board-certified cosmetic surgeon and has a recovery period of up to 6 weeks or more based on the surgery (i.e., tummy, thighs, buttocks, etc.) and patient.
4. Breast augmentation
Breast augmentation is a plastic surgery procedure that aims to alter, mostly to increase the size, change the shape, and texture of the breasts. It is commonly done for aesthetic purposes, however, it may also be done for reconstructive purposes, such as removal of a cancerous breast. Breast implants are typically filled with saline solution or silicone gel. There were also alternative-composition implants that use soy oil and polypropylene string, which are manufactured far less.
5. Blepharoplasty
Blepharoplasty is a plastic surgery procedure that is done to correct defects, deformities, and disfigurations of the eyelids. The surgery is also done to correct ptosis, or sagging eyelids and to remove fatty bulges from around the eyes. After a blepharoplasty procedure, most patients look younger after puffiness in the lower eyelids is reduced. This operation demands a recovery period of 10 days, but swelling may remain for months. Women are the primary patients, accounting for 85% of all procedures in the U.S. and 88% in the U.K.
